Metallica And Rage Against The Machine Scoop Kerrang HonoursAugust 22, 2008
Metallica and Rage Against The Machine were the big winners at the Kerrang awards in London last night.
Metallica collected the inspiration accolade, while Rage Against The Machine were inducted into the music magazine's Hall of Fame. Both bands, who are scheduled to headline the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend, were given a rapturous reception by the audience. Metallica's frontman, James Hetfield, said the group were “very, very appreciative of all the love we feel around us”. "Heavy metal is resurging, coming alive again. Thank you for supporting that,” he added. Meanwhile, Rage Against The Machine's Zack De Le Rocha used his band's acceptance speech to send a political statement. After thanking all the bands who have influenced them, including The Clash and Public Enemy, he also praised "anyone who went out in the streets and showed Tony Blair the door". Other winners included Slipknot, who have cancelled their appearance at the festival following an injury sustained by drummer Joey Jordison, and 30 Second To Mars, who collected the awards for best single and best international band. Def Leppard also picked up an award for classic songwriting, which they accepted via video message. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Metallica's Lars Ulrich Sued By Personal Assistant (10.02.2011)
