The Police To Play Final Ever Show In New York This SummerMay 7, 2008
The Police have revealed that they will play their final ever concert in New York this summer.
The show, which will take place at a venue and date still to be confirmed, will raise money for the production of arts programming for public television in the city. The band will also donate $1million to help New York reduce its carbon footprint by 30% in 2030. Appearing at a press conference in Times Square today (May 6th), the band, who started their career in New York, said “our journey will come full circle as we play our final show here in New York City." The city’s mayor Michael Bloomberg will match the band’s donation – which will go towards the planting of 10,000 trees across New York’s five boroughs. It’s hoped that the trees will improve air and water quality, as well as reduce greenhouse gases. The Police, who split in 1984, reformed at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last year for a 30th anniversary world tour.
