The Police To Play Last Ever Concert In IrelandMarch 7, 2008
The Police will headline a huge outdoor event in Ireland this summer, which is being billed as their last ever appearance in the country.
The concert will take place in the ground of the Stormont estate on June 20th. Northern Ireland First Minister the Reverend Ian Paisley said that the event was a “fantastic coup” for the country. “An event of this magnitude has a sizeable benefit for the economy, not least our tourism industry,” he said. Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said that he hoped 35,000 people would be able to attend the concert, which wil be the first on the estate for a number of years. The concerts, which in the past have seen performances from the Eagles and Elton John, have not taken place over recent years because of cost issues. They were originally organised by former Northern Ireland secretary Mo Mowlam to support the peace process in the country.
