New Order Asked To Re-Record 'World In Motion' With John BarnesOctober 13, 2009
New Order bassist Peter Hook has revealed that the defunct group have been asked by the FA to re-record their 1990 anthem 'World In Motion' to spur on England at next year's World Cup.
The 53-year-old, who releases his book about the hacienda 'How Not To Run A Club' this month, said John Barnes has been put forward to re-record his now infamous rap. Barnes, arguably one of the worst managers in football history, was sacked as Tranmere boss last week. Speaking to TalkSport, Hook said: "We've just been offered John Barnes to redo the rap for next year. "We've been offered the official World Cup anthem nearly every time. Tony Wilson lined up (David) Beckham to do the rap and we were going to redo the song. “But the FA then reconsidered it, saying: 'No, no, no we're going with ANT & DEC'. "I would have loved to have heard Beckham do a rap and he was up for it. But this time on the table is John Barnes re-doing the rap." 'World In Motion' was a number one hit in 1990 when England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Italy.
