MGMT: 'We're Not Very Exciting'March 10, 2008
Despite critics and fans alike salivating over their recent live shows, MGMT are a bit more self-deprecating saying that their gigs are “boring.”
The Brooklyn act believe that their shows are in desperate need of something more extravagant than five kids standing there playing their tunes. Keyboardist and songwriter Ben Goldwasser says: "We haven't considered putting on Kiss make-up yet, but we'd like to make our shows more theatrical." Agreeing with the point frontman Andrew VanWyngarden continued to the BBC: "Yes, right now they're pretty boring. We're not very exciting in real life." Elsewhere in the interview Goldwasser expressed his amazement at the kind of warm reception they have been receiving in the UK. He continued: "It was surprising to see how many people had actually heard about us. "It's especially weird because we were locked up in the studio for a while, just kind of messing around in Brooklyn and playing music in a little bubble. Then we came over here and everyone's talking about us. It's kind of crazy." Last week’s gig at the ICA in London was one of the most anticipated intimate gigs of recent months. Revellers who packed out the venue included Mark Ronson, Klaxons and the Kaiser Chiefs. (by Scott Colothan) See also: MGMT: 'Jedward Are Prettier Than Us' (01.10.2010)
