Former Kinks frontman Ray Davies is to curate next year's Metldown festival in London.

The 18th annual edition of the event will take place at the Southbank Centre from June 10-18, 2011.

“My wish for Meltdown 2011 is that it will be a creative celebration through the decades,” Davies said. “A bridge between the past present and future.

“I am thrilled to be asked to suggest what I hope will be a diverse programme, particularly as it marks the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain.”

The full line-up for the festival will be announced early next year. Previous Meltdown curators have included Jarvis Cocker, Morrissey and David Bowie.
