Katy Perry's forthcoming cameo appearance on Sesame Street has been axed.

The singer had been due to appear on the children's TV show after filming a segment alongside Elmo, which was released onto YouTube earlier this week.

But in a statement, producers said they had received complaints from parents and would no longer be using the piece.

“In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of 'Sesame Street,' which is aimed at preschoolers,” they said.

Producers added that fans of the singer would still be able to view the video on YouTube.

US media has reported that some parents complained that Perry's low-cut outfit was too revealing.
