Lady Gaga To Rally Against Don't Ask, Don't Tell Today (September 20)September 20, 2010
Lady Gaga is to visit Maine later today (September 20) to rally against the US military's controversial Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) policy.
The singer has become an ardent critic of the law, which bans gays and lesbians from serving openly in the US military. In a post on Twitter, Lady Gaga said: “Meet me in Portland, Maine 2moro, 9/20 to help repeal #DADT. I'm holding a Rally + speaking live in Deering Oaks Park.” Don't Ask, Don't Tell has come under the spotlight again ahead of a vote in the US senate this week, which could see it abolished. At present, US military officers must not to question troops' personal relationships, as long as they keep their sexual orientation private. On Thursday, Lady Gaga recorded a presidential-style video criticising DADT. Lady Gaga was joined by openly gay and lesbian military veterans at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles earlier this month. The singer has long been an advocate for gay rights.
