Arcade Fire have announced details of their first UK arena tour, which is due to get under way in London on December 1.

The Montreal-based band will play five dates, including gigs in Birmingham (December 8), Cardiff (9) and Manchester (11).

The tour is scheduled to conclude at the SECC in Glasgow on December 12.

Meanwhile, Arcade Fire's third album 'The Suburbs' went in at number one on the UK album chart on Sunday.

It is the first time the band have topped the countdown.

Tickets go on sale on Friday (August 13) at 9am.

• London, O2 Arena – December 1
• Birmingham, LG Arena – 8
• Cardiff, Arena – 9
• Manchester, Central – 11
• Glasgow, SECC – 12
