Giggs UK Tour Axed Over Security FearsFebruary 23, 2010
Giggs has cancelled his upcoming UK tour after concerns potential fears were raised over fans' safety.
The hotly-tipped rapper, from Peckham, London was due to embark on the ten date jaunt, starting in Birmingham on Wednesday (February 24). But it has now been axed after promoters for the rapper's London date contacted the Metropolitan police. A police spokesperson told the BBC: "Police advised that there were concerns about potential risk to the event, if it took place. "It is routine for police to work with licensed venues on a regular basis to identify and manage risk assessments for upcoming performances but the decision to cancel an event is a matter for the venue itself." But Giggs claimed that the police had contacted other venues on his tour about possible safety concerns. “This is how it's been from the beginning, it's just that everyone is hearing about it now,” the rappper told BBC 1Xtra. “Before it used to be low key, people didn't really believe me.” Giggs added: "I just want to thank the police for all this great promotion that they're giving me, all these cancellations and that is just making me more powerful." The rapper was also set to play gigs in Cardiff, Norwich and Leeds during the ten-date jaunt. (by Jason Gregory) |
