Kanye West Dominates BET Nominations Following VMAs OutburstSeptember 18, 2009
Kanye West has dominated this year's BET nominations, just days after his outburst at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The rapper has been shortlisted for nine awards, including Lyricist of the Year, Best Live Performer and CD of the Year for '808s & Heartbreak'. The category also features albums by Eminem, Q-Tip, T.I. and Young Jeezy. Jay-Z and Lil' Wayne have each received seven nominations, while T.I. has been shortlised for six awards. Veteran rapper Rapper Ice Cube will collect the I Am Hip Hop icon award at the ceremony in Atlanta on October 10. As previously reported, West has faced a barrage of criticism after he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs last Sunday. As well as a host of musicians, two US presidents, including the present incumbent Barack Obama, have spoken about the incident. President Obama labelled West a “jackass” during an off-the-record portion of an interview with a US TV show.
