Blur Reunite At London Premiere Of Damon Albarn's OperaNovember 13, 2008
Blur's Graham Coxon and Alex James reunited with their former band mate Damon Albarn in London last night (November 12th).
The pair watched the opening night production of Albarn's opera, Monkey: Journey to the West at the O2 Arena. The opera, which has been praised by critics, has been created alongside Albarn's Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett. Guitarist Coxon told the BBC that he “loved” Albarn's production, adding: “He's very clever, I was always rather in awe of Damon's talents from a young age, really it's his staunchness about music and his energy." Meanwhile, James, Blur's former bassist, said he thought the show was “one of the best pieces of theatre I've ever seen”. He added: “It was better than Power Rangers." Monkey: A Journey to the West originally premiered in Manchester last year. As previously reported, last week Albarn gave his strongest indication yet about the possibility of a full Blur reunion. He said it was “very possible” now that he has rekindled his relationship with Coxon.
