Sir Paul McCartney To Receive MTV Ultimate Legend AwardNovember 5, 2008
Sir Paul McCartney will be presented with an Ultimate Legend award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool tomorrow (November 6th).
The former Beatle will personally collect the honour in his hometown but is not expected to perform. In a statement, MTV said Sir Paul showed a remarkable “dedication to sharing his experience and nurturing the next generation of talented artists”. "Not only has he has been one of the most formative influences on the music scene on a global scale, but he is one of the founding fathers that has earned Liverpool the recent accolade as most musical city in the UK,” they added. The honour comes less than a year after the singer won the Lifetime Achievement prize at the Brit Awards. It also coincides with Liverpool's reign as the European Capital of Culture. As previously reported, Coldplay, Britney Spears and Duffy lead the nominations at this year's MTV European Music Awards. Spears, who triumphed at the MTV VMA's in Los Angeles in September, is widely expected to attended the ceremony, which will be hosted by Katy Perry.
