Vampire Weekend Believe Their Success Is Down To LuckFebruary 19, 2010
Vampire Weekend have downplayed their chart success in the US saying it would be “shallow” to get too carried away with it.
The New York band's second album 'Contra' topped the US Billboard chart in January, a feat that would be heralded with great celebration from most bands except Vampire Weekend. "It's exciting, but you're number one for a week and then you're not,” frontman Ezra Koenig told NME. "Even with a number one there's still plenty of people who've never heard of you. There's so much to do. To be number one versus number three or number five, that's the luck of the draw. "Our day-to-day has changed so little. It's not like now the glitz and glamour surrounds us." Asked how he first celebrated the news of hitting the top spotKoenig continued: "I woke up from a nap and saw it on an email and went back to sleep. Then later on in the night we did a toast. We had some fun but nothing.” (by Scott Colothan) See also: Vampire Weekend Announce Winter UK Tour (19.07.2010)
