U2's Spider-Man Musical 'Facing Uncertain Future'November 30, 2010
The future of the Broadway adaptation of Spider-Man, which features music by U2, may already be uncertain, according to reports.
The $65million musical opened for previews on Sunday (November 28), but has already faced mixed reviews. And now a report in the New York Times claims the Foxwood Theater’s new manager is already looking for future replacements. In an introductory letter to producers, Erich Jungwirth is said to have asked if they "had productions in the works that might be a future fit for the Foxwoods Theater”. Speaking under the condition of anonymity, the producers said the type of letter was uncertain but that Jungwirth seemed uncertain as to how long Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark’s run would last. The first preview on Sunday was blighted by a number of technical problems, including one that left Spider-Man hanging over the audience. The production, which has been nine years in the making, has been described as a "pop-up, pop-art opera" by Bono.
