Online Petition Calls For U2's Bono To Retire From Public LifeAugust 1, 2008
An online petition will donate all its proceeds to Aids charities if it achieves its main target – to get U2 frontman Bono to retire from public life.
Organisers say the petition, which has so far raised $390, wants to help stop Bono from “leading misguided counter-productive philanthropy efforts”. It also calls the U2 frontman “self-righteous”. “The grassroots leaders of the global fight against AIDS didn’t ask for Bono to be their frontman. Its time for Bono to step down,” they add. The petition states that no pledge will be collected until Bono retires from public life. U2 are currently recording their new studio album alongside Brian Eno at their home studios Dublin.
