Madina Lake Bassist To Undergo More Surgery After Brutal Street Attack

July 9, 2010
Madina Lake Bassist To Undergo More Surgery After Brutal Street AttackMadina Lake's bassist Matthew Leone is to undergo more surgery after he was beaten by a man on a street in Chicago.

Leone was coming to the rescue of a woman who was being assault by the man – believed to be her husband – during a domestic dispute last month.

He was admitted to hospital, where doctors had to remove a third of his skull to allow the swelling on his brain go down.

Leone's brother twin brother and the band's singer Nathan said he had since been discharged, but needed another operation on July 16.

"Right now it's a situation where we have all this time until the surgery, and you're holding your breath that everything is stable until then,” Nathan told MTV News.

“Then you need that surgery to go perfectly, and from there it's another four to six weeks of recovery. So hopefully everything goes as well as possible."

Fans have raised more than $12,000 for the bassist, and plans are in place for an online charity auction.

Meanwhile, Madina Lake have committed to playing a host of UK dates next month, including the Sonisphere festival in Knebworth.

Nahan said his brother wouldn't be replaced by a stand-in bassist and that he intended to record his bass parts on a backing track.
