April 21, 2011
TV On The Radio Star Gerard Smith Dies Of Lung CancerTV On the Radio star Gerard Smith has died followed a battle with lung cancer.

The bassist died on Wednesday morning (April 20), his bandmates said in a statement.

"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer," they said.

"Gerard passed away the morning of April 20, 2011. We will miss him terribly."

Smith was diagnosed with the disease shortly after the band finished  recording new album 'Nine Types Of Light'. He was not going to join them on tour this summer while he received treatment.

TV On The Radio have cancelled five gigs in the US due to take place this week, including a performance in Detroit last night (April 20).
