George Michael: I Deserved Jail For Snappy Snaps CrashMarch 6, 2011
George Michael has said he deserved to be sent to prison after crashing his car into a photography shop while under the influence of drugs.
The singer was jailed for eight weeks and fined for crashing into Snappy Snaps in North London last year. It was the latest incident on a growing list of run-ins with the law for the former Wham! singer. "This was a hugely shameful thing to have done repeatedly," Michael told BBC Radio 2 Breakfast DJ Chris Evans. "So karmically I felt like I had a bill to pay. I went to prison, I paid my bill." "Remarkably enough, I know people must think it was a really horrific experience - it's so much easier to take any form of punishment if you believe you actually deserve it, and I did." He added: "It wasn't a weekend break, put it that way. I didn't feel sorry for myself. I thought, 'Oh my God, this place is absolutely filthy, because it was Pentonville'. I just thought, you get your head down." As previously reported, Michael has recorded a cover of New Order's 'Truth Faith' for Comic Relief. The single, which will be accompanied by a new video, is due to be released digitally on march 13 and physically on March 14.
