Kooks Song Caught Up In Olympic Games ControversyJuly 31, 2008
Two team mates in Britain's Olympic sailing squad have been forced to change the name of their boat after officials at the games deemed it inappropriate.
Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison were told their boat, Jackie Big Tit's, named after a song by the Kooks, was not suitable for the games, which get underway in China next month. The duo have a long tradition of naming their vessel after musical inspirations, with past names including “a boat called Britney and another named Sally Cinnamon.” Apparently, according to Morrison, “It’s not the same if your boat just has a number, is it?” After complaints from officials, the two will now compete in the more “appropriately” named Little Miss Pipedream – which is also a song by the Wombats. “It's pretty legendary to be given such an honour. Let’s hope Britain sail to victory in Little Miss Pipedream with some marsupial wind behind them,” Wombats frontman Matthew Murray told the Sun when he heard the news.
