The Knife To Stage Darwinian OperaApril 21, 2009
The Knife are to stage an opera based on Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
The production, entitled Tomorrow, In A Year, features new compositions “that challenge the conception of opera”. In a statement, The Knife said the opera would feature three singers from different backgrounds: electronica pop, classical opera and performance. “They are structure, sensation, form, time and thought,” the statement said. “They are the spokesman, the organiser, and the one who acts.” Japanese choreographer and dancer Hiroaki Umeda has choreographed routines for six dancers. The production is expected to debut this November on the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s The Origin of Species. The seminal work introduced the new theory that populations evolve over time as a result of natural selection. (by Jason Gregory) See also: The Knife Begin Recording New Album (26.04.2011)
