Ou Est Le Swimming Pool Singer Commits Suicide

August 20, 2010
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool Singer Commits SuicideOu Est Le Swimming Pool frontman Charles Haddon has comitted suicide, it has been confirmed.

The frontman, aged 22, is believed to have taken his own life after the band's appearance at the Pukkelpop festival. He is said to have jumped from a mast in the artist parking area.

Belgium district attorney Marc Rubens said that police were treating the death as suicide.

Pukkelpop organisers said Haddon's family had been informed.

A statement posted on their website said "After performing with his band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, singer Charles Haddon decided to take his own life.

"Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his friends and family."

It is thought that the suicide may have been connected to an earlier incident during the gig when keyboardist Joel Hutchinson jumped into the audience and landed heavily on a girl who was hurt and taken away in an ambulance.

It has been widely reported on Dutch media and confirmed by a Foreign Office spokeswoman who said: "We can confirm the death of a British national on August 20 in Hasselt, Belgium. Consular assistance has been offered."

The three-piece shot to fame earlier this year and were due to play a UK tour this autumn.

Their debut album 'Christ Died For Our Synths' was scheduled to arrive later this year.
