The Killers Launch Countersuit Against Former ManagerFebruary 23, 2009
The Killers have filed a countersuit against their former manager, Braden Merrick, for alleged breach of contract and unjust enrichment.
In the lawsuit, filed in a Las Vegas court, the band claim Merrick's alleged incompetence caused them to lose out on revenue. The lawsuit also accuses their former manager of working with their record label, Def Jam, in breach of his managerial contract, and without the group's knowledge. According to Billboard, the band are seeking “multi-million-dollar damages in missed concerts and lost touring revenues, and via the bungling of merchandising and promotional opportunities.” The Killers' legal history with Merrick began in 2006 when he sued the band for alleged breach of contract. He also alleged that the band's current manager, Robert Renolds, had interfered with his contract with the band. Meanwhile, The Killers kick off their UK tour in London tonight (February 23rd).
