Yoko Ono In Court Over 'John Lennon Drugs Video'April 23, 2008
A video which shows former Beatle John Lennon talking about putting LSD in President Nixon’s tea is set to become the focus of major US court battle.
Massachusetts-based World Wide Video, who claim to own the nine hours of footage, have filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono. Ono, who appears in the video, doesn’t want the consortium of Beatles collectors to turn the footage into a feature film about her husband. The footage was shot in 1970 just weeks before the Beatles split up and shows Lennon smoking cannabis and writing the songs ‘Remember’ and ‘Mind Games’. World Wide attempted to show the film last year at the private Berwick Academy but were halted by a stop order from Ono’s lawyers. According to court papers, the footage was originally shot by Anthony Cox, Ono’s husband before Lennon, for a documentary about the Beatle. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 30th, reports Reuters. (by Jason Gregory) See also: iTunes 'Paying The Beatles Direct Royalties' (06.01.2011)
