Diplo Claims M.I.A 'Didn't Care' About Her New Album

July 16, 2010
Diplo Claims M.I.A 'Didn't Care' About Her New AlbumDiplo has claimed M.I.A “didn’t care” about her new album.

The producer is among many collaborators on ‘/\\/\\/\\Y/\\’, but said that the British-Sri Lankan rapper chose to go “her own way” during recording.

Relations between the pair - who have enjoyed a close working partnership in the past - have soured in recent months.

In an interview with Blackbook magazine, Diplo said M.I.A shunned attempts by him and fellow producer Switch to assert “quality control” over the album.

“We care about the way things sound, and when the people that she works with don’t, then it’s ****ed up,” he said.

“She’s got a talent in every aspect. She’s got ideas bigger than any artist I’ve ever met and she’s someone to ****in’ make that happen. All she has is a bunch of yes men around her and they kinda suck.”

Asked if he would work with the rapper again, the producer replied: “As soon as she comes to terms with what she does then we can work again.

“One of us has to be like, We ****ed up, and then we can do it again.”

/\\/\\/\\Y/\\’ is the follow-up to the rapper’s 2007 album ‘Kala’.
