Starsailor Record Hillsborough Single With Ex-Liverpool PlayersMarch 26, 2009
Starsailor frontman James Walsh has joined a host of former Liverpool footballers on a single to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.
The song, a re-recording of 'The Fields of Anfield Road', also includes guest appearances from Echo and the Bunnymen's Nick Kilroe and Rob Taylor of the Troubadours. Ninety-six football fans lost their lives during the tragedy at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield on April 15th 1989. Bruce Grobbelaar, who was goalkeeper as Liverpool took on Nottingham Forest and appears on the single, told the BBC the event was impossible to forget. "We'll always remember it,” he added. Fellow player John Aldridge said he hoped the single would keep the memories of those who died “alive and make people realise we're still there for them”. The single, which has been endorsed by the Hillsborough Family Support Group, is released on April 6th. A memorial ceremony for the tragedy will take place at Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, on April 15th. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Calvin Harris, Jet, Starsailor Set For V Festival (29.04.2009)
