Katy Perry Denies Beach Boys LawsuitAugust 6, 2010
Katy Perry has denied reports that The Beach Boys are set to sue her over the lyrics in her recent single 'California Gurls'.
US tabloid reports claimed the band’s record label believed they should be given a writing credit because Perry's song includes a lyric from their 1965 hit, 'California Girls'. The line - “I wish they all could be California Girls" - is rapped by Snoop Dogg in Perry's version. But Beach Boy Mike Love, who wrote the original with Brian Wilson, later said they were "definitely not suing Katy Perry". And responding to the report on Twitter, Perry wrote: “Just to be clear...no one is suing anyone. “The press just loves to once again fabricate & exaggerate stories to get hits or sell papers.” Perry’s song is taken from her new album ‘Teenage Dream’, which is released on August 30.
