John Squire: 'Absolutely No Chance Of Stone Roses Reunion'March 20, 2009
Former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has ruled out ever reuniting with his former bandmates.
Speaking on the BBC's Newsnight programme, Squire said he would rather “live my life than attempt to rehash it”. Squire, now an artist, was forced to speak out after a newspaper claimed the band had agreed to a 21-date reunion tour. When asked by presenter Gavin Esler whether there was any chance of a Stone Roses reformation, Squire replied: "None whatsoever.” He added: "It would be pointless. I find art far more challenging and rewarding." Squire remained defiant as Esler continued to press him on the reports - and said he had only agreed to appear on the programme because he was “trying to stop the phones ringing”. The guitarist also revealed that he hadn't spoken to singer Ian Brown since he left The Stones Roses in 1996. "Even if Ian and I were 'double-dating', as we did in our teens, then the prospect of a reunion wouldn't interest me at all," Squire said. Speculation about the bands future has risen again as the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album in May draws closer. 'The Stone Roses' is to this day one of the most critically revered albums of all time. (@Music) See also: Clint Boon Confirms Stone Roses Reunion (07.04.2011)
