Rihanna Outrage Over 'S&M' Censorship On BBC Radio 1 Was PR StuntFebruary 8, 2011
Rihanna's recent outrage over her 'S&M' censorship ban on BBC Radio 1 has been exposed as a PR stunt.
On Sunday (February 6), Rihanna expressed her frustration after she was informed on Twitter that the station had re-titled 'S&M' as 'Come On'. Radio 1 had also cut several sexual words from the version, including "sex" and "chains". It now seems that Rihanna's own team had distributed the toned-down version and re-titled the track to make it suitable for daytime stations. Responding to the singer's criticism, a Radio 1 spokesperson told Gigwise: "During daytime hours, as younger audiences are listening, we are playing the radio edit which is called 'Come On'." The video for 'S&M' has also been banned in several countries, while other broadcasters have vowed to only show it at more adult-friendly times of the day.
