Dizzee Rascal Wants Mercury Prize To Be Renamed 'The Dizzee Award'July 21, 2010
Dizzee Rascal has said he wants the Mercury Prize to be renamed to The Dizzee Award.
The rapper won the award for his debut album 'Boy In A Corner' in 2003, and was nominated in again in 2007. His most recent album, 2009's 'Tongue N' Cheek', is also one of twelve albums shortlisted for this year's prize. “The Dizzee award, that’s what they should call it, why not?” Rascal told the Daily Star. The rapper added that it would be “nice” to win the award for his latest album, which peaked at number three on the UK album chart when it was released. “It’s my first independent release on Dirtee Stank and my first platinum album,” he added. Other acts nominated for the Mercury Prize include Paul Weller, The xx, Wild Beasts, Corinne Bailey Rae and Foals. The award will be handed out at a ceremony in London on September 7.
