Vampire Weekend Cover Star Speaks Out About PhotographAugust 25, 2010
The cover star of Vampire Weekend's second album 'Contra' has again insisted that she didn't give the band permission to use the photograph.
The image of Ann Kirsten Kennis, apparently taken in 1983, was also the main focus of a promotional campaign for the record. In July, she filed a lawsuit against the band, claiming that she never authorised them to use the image. And in an interview with Vanity Fair, she said was unhappy about the continued use of the image. "You start to see interviews from fans of the band, and they are like, 'I would just be glad that my picture was on it.' Well, not really. They are using it for their gain," she said. "Something is wrong here. It's like, don't just use my picture all over the place." The photograph is credited to photographer Tod Brody, but Kennis has previously claimed the polaroid was taken by her mother. But Brody has maintained that he took the picture when Kennis posed for him in 1983. 'Contra' debuted at number three on the UK album chart in January.
