Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1 Founder Backs Sex Pistols CampaignJanuary 19, 2010
The founder of the Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1 campaign has lent his support to a new Facebook group aiming to get The Sex Pistols to the top spot.
The group, Sex Pistols 'God Save The Queen' For No.1 on Queen's Birthday, 12 June 2010, has been set up by Chris Sharp and, as the title suggests, is aiming to give a “two fingered salute to the establishment” this summer. Sharp writes: “In June 1977 the charts were manipulated to prevent God Save The Queen being no.1 as it would have been a major embarrassment to the Queen's silver jubilee celebrations. “Following RATMs Xmas no.1 success, let's give another 2 fingered salute to the establishment and give a band who are a national treasure the debut chart topper they deserve.” Last night, RATM4XMAS's very own Jon Morter spoke to Sharp to offer him some words of wisdom. Morter wrote on Facebook: “Just had a great chat on the phone with Chris, the guy who's behind the Sex Pistols campaign. Chart Heist II is good to go!” Explaining why he has given his support to the campaign, Morter late wrote: “I'm a pistols fan so am supporting it...thats all...no-one else has to [join the Sex Pistols group] you know” As well as downloading the track from Sunday 30th May to Saturday June 5th, a Sex Pistols justgiving page has been set up where people can make a pledge to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. The Sex Pistols group currently has 30,000 members. (by Scott Colothan) See also: Sex Pistols' John Lydon To Release Scrapbook (20.10.2010)
