Musicians To Meet At Illegal Downloading Summit In LondonSeptember 23, 2009
Musicians at the centre of a disagreement over how to solve the problem of illegal file-sharing will meet at a summit in London on Thursday.
A row has arisen between the Featured Artists' Coalition (FAC), which includes stars of Radiohead and Blur, and a rival group led by Lily Allen. The FAC is against government proposals to ban internet users who download music illegally. Allen's lobby, meanwhile, which has won support from Matt Bellamy, Mark Ronson and Gary Barlow, wants tougher action against file-sharers. She has started a blog to help "those artists that are still struggling to break through in the file sharing age". According to the BBC, the FAC has invited all artists to the “urgent meeting to hammer out a unified position on this issue".
