Paul Weller Plays 'Eton Rifles' For First Time In 16 YearsJune 5, 2008
Paul Weller shocked fans during a concert in London last night (June 4th) by playing the Jam classic ‘Eton Rifles’.
It was the first time that the former Jam frontman, who has frequently vowed not to play songs from the bands back-catalogue, had played the song in 16 years. This song was included towards the end of Weller’s set at the Indigo2, which comprised largely of songs from his new double album ’22 Dreams’. Speaking recently about the Jam reunion, which consists of former members Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler and a guest singer, Weller said that he rarely misses the band. “I quite like what today is. It was a lot of pressure, being that kind of spokesman for a generation,” he said. “Whether it was my own fault for setting myself up or not, I don’t know, but it was a lot of pressure for a young man. I certainly didn’t miss that”. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Paul Weller Completes Work On New Album (05.04.2011)
