Simon Cowell's Haiti Charity Single 'To Sell A Million Copies In A Day'February 4, 2010
The Simon Cowell-organised charity single for the victims of the Haiti earthquake is expected to sell more than a million copies in its first day.
The track, a cover of 'Everybody Hurts' by R.E.M., goes on sale digitally around the world on Sunday (February 7). The all-star line up of vocalists include Mariah Carey, JLS, Robbie Williams and Take That. The song, which has been co-organised by The Sun newspaper, is already number one on Amazon's pre-release chart while HMV are reporting record requests. "Thanks to The Sun's campaign a huge support is building,” HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo said. "This single will dominate the charts in the weeks ahead as the biggest release of the past ten years." The CD single will be available to buy from Monday (February 8). A Joseph Kahn-directed video is currently in development. Meanwhile, it has been announced that Shane McGowan and actor Johnny Depp have teamed up on another charity single. The song, a cover 'I Put A Spell On You', also features Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and The Clash's Mick Jones.
