Noel Gallagher: 'Everybody Won, Thanks To Jay-Z Glastonbury Comments'August 7, 2008
Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher says everyone benefited thanks to the controversial comments he made about Jay-Z's appearance at the Glastonbury festival.
Gallagher called the US rapper's booking “wrong” prior to the festival in June, suggesting that hip-hop music had no place at the event. But the guitarist now says his comments, made in an interview with the BBC, were “taken wrong” and that the attention they caused was "ludicrous". "I wasn't saying I was better than Jay-Z as a person or rock was greater than hip-hop as a thing or whatever it is." "I don't really get what all the fuss was about," he said. He also noted how positive record sales for both Oasis' 'Wonderwall', which Jay-Z opened his set with, and the rapper's records following the festival had justified what he said. “Everyone's a winner," he told the NME.
