Carl Barat Deal Reveals New Libertines Gigs

February 28, 2011
Carl Barat Deal Reveals New Libertines GigsA deal is in place for The Libertines to perform more gigs following their reunion last year, it has emerged.

The additional unconfirmed shows form part of a deal singer Carl Barat has signed with the investment firm Power Amp, which specialises in backing established artists in the music industry.

Barat has signed a £500,000 multi-revenue stream deal with the company, who will help fund all aspects of his career, including music, publishing and touring, reports the Independent.

Following a showcase for potential investors in London recently, Power Amp's chief executive Tom Bywater was asked whether the agreement included Libertines gigs.

"It includes a meaningful amount from Libertines gigs,” he replied.

Barat said the deal was about remaining “independent” and proves that artists no longer need the support of a major record label.

The Libertines reformed for a series of gigs last summer, including the Reading and Leeds festivals.
