Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears Writes MusicalApril 28, 2011
Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears has written a new musical adaptation of Armistead Maupin's Tales Of The City.
The production, due to open in San Francisco next month, condenses Maupin's novels into one show. It includes themes about gays, bohemians and other outsiders, set in 1970s San Francisco, reports Rolling Stone. Shears said he was keen to be involved in the production when he received an email from librettist Jeff Whitty. "I got an email from wondering if I'd be interested in a musical that took place in the Seventies and had kinda fun themes that involved gays, copious drug use and trannies," he said. "I said, 'Of course - what is it?'" Tales Of The City is set to run at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco from May 18-July 10.
