Beach Boys: 'We're Not Suing Katy Perry'August 6, 2010
The Beach Boys have denied reports that they are suing Katy Perry over her song ‘California Gurls’.
On Thursday, the New York Post reported that the band’s record label believed they should be given a writing credit because Perry's song includes a lyric from their 1965 hit, 'California Girls'. The line - “I wish they all could be California Girls" - is rapped by Snoop Dogg in Perry's version. But Beach Boy Mike Love, who wrote the original with Brian Wilson, told ET the band were "definitely not suing Katy Perry". He continued: "In fact, we are flattered that her fantastically successful song is bringing to mind to millions of people our 1965 recording of the Beach Boys' 'California Girls’. “We think her song is great and wish her all the success in the world." Perry’s song is taken from her new album ‘Teenage Dream’, which is released on August 30. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Katy Perry, Kanye West Perform 'ET' On American Idol (22.04.2011)
