Morrissey Slams Kylie Minogue, George Bush & Meat At Wireless

July 7, 2008
Morrissey Slams Kylie Minogue, George Bush & Meat At WirelessMorrissey used his appearance at the Wireless Festival in London on July 4th to mock the recent OBE of Kylie Minogue.

The former Smiths singer, who was headlining the second day of the festival in Hyde Park, sarcastically told the crowd that he was “absolutely thrilled to death” to see Minogue honoured for her services to music.

“I’m sure you’ll agree, it was completely deserved,” he added, reffering to the moment that the singer picked up her honour from Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

Morrissey played a diverse set to a sold out crowd of 30,000, mixing classic Smiths songs, including ‘Ask’ and ‘How Soon Is Now’, alongside tracks from his solo career.

He also previewed two tracks from his forthcoming album ‘Years of Refusal’, which is expected this September.

After his earlier attack on Minogue, the singer later moved onto politics, denouncing the presidency of George W Bush – much to the delight of the crowd, who responded in a similar way when Jay-Z attacked the president on the day one of the festival.

And towards the end of his set, Morrissey criticised the meat eaters in the crowd when he caught a scent of burgers drifting across the stage.

At the conclusion of Smiths tracks ‘What She Said’, the final song of the evening, Morrissey thrilled members of the audience near the stage by ripping off his shirt and throwing it into the crowd.
