Pearl Jam, KISS Stage Musical Tributes To Ronnie James DioMay 19, 2010
Pearl Jam and KISS have both staged musical tributes to Ronnie James Dio following the former Black Sabbath singer’s death.
Dio passed away on Sunday following a battle with cancer. He was 67. On Monday, KISS’ Paul Stanley lead fans at a concert in Switzerland in a chant in memory of the star. "Ronnie! Ronnie! Ronnie! Ronnie! We love you and we miss you!" he said. The band, who are currently on a European tour, had already released a statement about Dio, describing him as a “true gentlemen”. According to MTV, the metal legend was also remembered at a Pearl Jam concert in Boston. Fans were treated to music from Dio’s back catalogue before the gig, while Pearl Jam also ended their hit ‘Alive’ with the riffs from Black Sabbath’s ‘Heaven And Hell’. As previously reported, Ozzy Osbourne, who was replaced as Black Sabbath’s singer by Dio, joined tributes yesterday. News of Dio’s death was broken by his wife Wendy in a message on the star’s website. As well as performing with Black Sabbath, the heavy metal vocalist also worked with Heaven and Hell.
