Michael Jackson Sued By Thriller Video DirectorJanuary 28, 2009
Michael Jackson is being sued by the director behind the music video for his hit song, 'Thriller'.
John Landis has accused the singer of failing to pay him profits from the video for the last four years. In a lawsuit filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, Landis claimed he was entitled to 50% of the profits from the video, as well as royalty payments from a behind-the-scenes documentary he directed. The video for 'Thriller', which was released in 1983, is widely regarded as one of the greatest music videos of all time. It is said to have cost $500,000 to make – about ten times the cost of a normal music video at the time. Landis's solicitor told the Wrap: "I can't understand what they are doing to John Landis's company. It is such a straight ahead thing. It makes no sense at all to me." A representative of Jackson declined to comment on the allegations. As previously reported, it was announced yesterday (January 27th) that Jackson is currently working on a musical adaptation of the video. The production is expected to be unveiled on Broadway.
