Kate Nash: 'Pussycat Dolls Encourage Sexualisation In Young Girls'

March 15, 2010
Kate Nash: 'Pussycat Dolls Encourage Sexualisation In Young Girls'Kate Nash has slammed the Pussycat Dolls, saying that they “encourage sexualisation and sexuality” in young girls.

The singer, who is openly feminist, claimed acts such as the US girl group were not a good role model for teenagers.

“Young kids should be taught about sex but they shouldn't be taught to be sexy,” Nash said.

“It's really distasteful. They're called Pussy. Cat. Dolls. You don't need to say anything else really.

“It's encouraging sexualisation and sexuality in young kids, and I think that's a bit weird.”

The 23-year-old singer, who release her new album next month, added that girl groups during her childhood had a different purpose.

“When I was young I was listening to the Spice Girls and Destiny's Child,” she told The Guardian.

“I was singing 'Independent Woman' and 'Survivor', and it was all about Girl Power and being with your friends.

Nash added: “I don't think I was singing, 'Don't cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?'”

The London singer's new album 'My Best Friend Is You' is released on April 19.
