Iron Maiden Pay Tribute To Ronnie James Dio At Sziget 2010

August 16, 2010
Iron Maiden Pay Tribute To Ronnie James Dio At Sziget 2010Iron Maiden paid tribute to Ronnie James Dio as they headlined the fourth day of Sziget festival on Saturday (August 14).

The band dedicated 'Blood Brothers' to the former Black Sabbath singer, who died in May aged 67.

"We'd like to dedicate this song to our blood brother, Ronnie James Dio," singer Bruce Dickinson said as he introduced the track.

Iron Maiden's epic 16-song set, which fused songs new and old, attracted the biggest crowd of the weekend to the main stage.

And straight from opener 'Wickerman', the band thrilled the Hungarian festival-goers with their theatrical stage and light show.

Dickinson was on typically enthusiastic form throughout, bounding around the stage in a black cut-off t-shirt and army combat trousers.

At one point he told the crowd: "Does anyone have to go to church in the morning? Because we're going to keep you here late tonight."

He also urged fans to buy new album ‘The Final Frontier’, rather than “steal it”.

After briefly leaving the stage, Iron Maiden returned to unleash a guitar-shredding encore, which kicked off with 'Number Of The Beast'.

They then moved on to 'Hallowed', before rounding off the night with 'Running Free'.

Iron Maiden played:

  1. Wickerman
  2. Ghost Of Navigator
  3. Wrathchild
  4. Eldorado
  5. Dance Of Death
  6. Benjamin Breeg
  7. These Colours
  8. Blood Brothers
  9. Wildest Dreams
  10. No More Lies
  11. Brave New World
  12. Fear Of The Dark
  13. Iron Maiden
  14. Number Of The Beast
  15. Hallowed
  16. Running Free

With Iron Maiden headlining, day four of the festival took on a hardier edge than the previous three days.

Hungarian bands came to the fore, with Tankcsapda delighting fans in the main stage ahead of Iron Maiden. Kamelot And Depresszió also played to large crowds on the Headbangers Ball Stage.

Back on the main stage, The Cribs drew an impressive mid-afternoon crowd.

The Jarman brothers and Johnny Marr played a set comprised of songs from their four studio albums, including ‘Men’s Needs’, ‘Hey Scenesters’ and ‘Cheat On Me’.

Calvin Harris' set in the Party Arena also proved popular, with many festival-goers forced to watch from outside the tent.
