Madonna Controversially Dedicates 'Like A Virgin' To The PopeSeptember 8, 2008
Madonna has once again courted controversy after she dedicated her song 'Like A Virgin' to the Pope during a concert in Rome.
The singer told the Italian crowd on Saturday (September 6th): "I dedicate this song to the Pope, because I'm a child of God. All of you are also children of God." Her comments come two years after she was criticised by the Catholic Church for staging a mock crucifixion at another concert in the city. And it's the second time Madonna has attracted criticism on her current Sweet and Sticky world tour. Last month, the Republican Party called a video montage – which bracketed candidate John McCain alongside Adolf Hitler - “outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time.” (by Jason Gregory) See also: Adele's '21' Equals Madonna's Album Chart Record (28.03.2011)
