Lily Allen: 'The Mercury Prize Has Lost It'July 20, 2010
Lily Allen has criticised the Mercury Prize following the announcement of this year's nominations.
In a post on Twitter, the singer appeared to take aim at Dizzee Rascal's nod for his 2009 album 'Tongue N' Cheek', before backing Laura Marling or The xx to win. “Disco disco disco disco...Pfft,” Allen wrote, in an apparent reference to Rascal's recent hit single 'Dirtee Disco'. “Mercurys have lost it. Marling to win please! Or the XX.” Rascal, who toured with Allen at the end of last year, won the Mercury Prize in 2003 for his debut album 'Boy In Da Corner'. The nominations for this year's award were announced during a ceremony in London today (July 21). Other nominees this year include Paul Weller, Corinne Bailey Rae, I Am Kloot and Wild Beasts. The 2010 winner will be unveiled at a ceremony in London on September 7. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Lily Allen Responds To X Factor Judge Rumours (04.04.2011)
