Neil Young To Be Honoured By Music IndustryAugust 13, 2009
Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young is to awarded the prestigious MusiCares Person of the Year award.
Young will be presented with award at ceremony in Los Angeles that takes place two days before the Grammy on January 29, 2010. The honour, which is awarded by the US Recording Academy the same organisation behind the Grammys, sites the 63 year-old's "influential artistic accomplishments and philanthropic work" as reason for his recognition. "Throughout his career, Neil has stood out as an exceptionally talented performer, and he has stood for causes that are both noble and close to his heart”, Chair of MusiCares Foundation Board Paul Caine said. Since 1986 Young and his wife have hosted the Bridge School Benefit, a charity concert that raises money to help children with severe physical and speech disabilities. The charity MusiCares offers help and support for musicians in times of hardship, with Brain Wilson and Neil Diamond making up some of the previous receiptiants.
