BRIT Awards Attract Less Viewers Than Holby City

The BRIT Awards were watched by nearly 6 million people last night but failed to attract more viewers than TV hospital Drama Holby City.

An average of 5.8million viewers tuned in as Lady GaGa took home three awards and Liam Gallagher caused controversy at the ceremony in London.

The ITV1 broadcast peaked at 6.3million viewers between 9.30pm and 9.45pm – the time slot which featured a performance from Cheryl Cole.

But the peak figure was only enough to match BBC1's Holby City's average number of viewers between 8pm and 9pm.

The BRIT Awards numbers were also down on last year's ceremony, which attracted an average of 6.1million viewers.

Last night's event from Earls Court was hosted by Peter Kay.
