The Courteeners: "New Album Well On It's Way"

June 30, 2008
The Courteeners: New Album Well On It's WayThe Courteeners have revealed they are nearly ready to complete work on their second album.

Speaking to Gigwise on a bench at Glastonbury, before their appearance on the John Peel stage yesterday, Liam Fray expained the band had around eight or nine new songs that had been completed and would be heading into the studio on Tuesday.

The band's debut 'St.Jude' made a mark on the charts by peaking at number four and Fray is glad it didn't become too great of a success.

"It reached the right amount of people that it needed to and i'm looking forward to getting on with new stuff now."

He also revealed that the album was soley made for the people that "took days off work" and everyone who watched them tour.

Miles Kane and Alex Turner wandered over to Fray for a few quick words and the Courteeners frontman was quick to praise his friends.

Speaking of The Last Shadow Puppets debut record he said: "Best album of the year in my eyes."

Elbow were another band who were the source of admiration from Fray who said: "Elbow's record is fucking brilliant. Absolute class that record. Lyrically and vocally that man (Guy Garvey) is a cut above."
