M.I.A Slams Lady Gaga's Privileged UpbringingM.I.A has slammed Lady Gaga after the singer was praised by Oprah Winfrey at a recent charity ball in New York.

The talk show host spoke fondly of Lady Gaga's success at the Metropolitan Ball in New York in May.

But in an interview with Time Out, M.I.A claimed Oprah had given her the “cold shoulder” at the event and suggested her praise for the singer was unfair.

“She was with [David Bowie's wife] Iman. Iman was always dancing with me, hugging and kissing me, but Oprah seemed really pissed off with me,” M.I.A said.

“Also she made this huge speech at the ball praising Lady Gaga and about how she [Lady Gaga] is helping Americans to be the best of themselves.

“There's millions of other Americans who represent that for me.”

M.I.A added: “Is [it] about numbers? About how much you're selling? Is it truly about the journey? Because [Lady Gaga's] journey isn't that difficult: to go from the ****ing Upper East Side to a ****ing performing arts school and on to a stage at the museum of ****ing wherever.

“That journey's about four miles.”

In April, M.I.A launched a similar attack against Lady Gaga, claiming she was “a good mimic” and musically “not progressive”.
